The Permanent Observatory on Artificial Intelligence, Economy and InstitutionsThe Permanent Observatory on Artificial Intelligence, Economy and Institutions was established in 2022, at the moment when artificial intelligence entered in a stable manner the sphere of economic, institutional and geopolitical infrastructures. Its establishment represents the outcome of a prior analytical trajectory developed within Zanettistudios S.r.l., a management consulting firm active since 2002, which over time built a continuous activity of study on artificial intelligence in order to address the strategic needs of client companies operating in complex and rapidly transforming environments. With the creation of the publication QUI MILANO, these study activities were reorganized into a structured editorial form, clearly distinguishing consulting intervention from the sphere of public reflection. From this transition emerged the Observatory, which operates within the Global AI Observatory (GAIO) as a space dedicated to the systemic analysis of the effects of artificial intelligence on the relationships between economy, institutions and society. The Observatory addresses artificial intelligence not as an isolated technology, but as a structural variable capable of redefining models of production, labor, value creation, governance and power relations. The adopted approach is systemic and interdisciplinary, integrating political economy, institutional analysis, public governance, regulatory frameworks and the geopolitical dynamics of technology, with particular attention to decision-making processes and emerging forms of authority.
The Global AI Observatory was founded and is directed by Giancarlo Zanetti, economist and entrepreneur, author of Theory of Unified Super-Substitutability (TUSS), the first economic theory conceived entirely for the post-artificial intelligence era. His work focuses on the transformation of economic and institutional systems under advanced AI, and the theoretical framework developed through essays, books and editorial projects constitutes the intellectual foundation of the Observatory. The editorial activity of the Observatory includes articles, analytical essays and publications dedicated to the economic, institutional and governance-related implications of artificial intelligence. The contents are conceived as research outputs rather than as divulgative materials, and are intended for decision makers, scholars and qualified observers. As part of its research activity, the Observatory also promotes qualified surveys and recurring barometers on the economic, institutional and social implications of artificial intelligence. These initiatives are designed to observe, over time, how companies, professionals, researchers and international experts perceive the impact of AI on work, value creation, governance, institutional responsibility and human autonomy. As part of its survey activity, some research outputs promoted by the Observatory may also be listed on www.sondaggipoliticoelettorali.it, the Italian Government website where published surveys are accompanied by their methodological information.
This reference is intended as an element of transparency. It allows readers to consult the essential methodological details of the surveys, including the subject responsible for the research, the sample criteria, the data collection method, the questions submitted and the period in which the survey was carried out.
The Observatory adopts a global perspective, with particular attention to European, transatlantic and Asian dynamics. Its Italian editorial presence is hosted within the QUI MILANO newspaper, where it operates as a permanent analytical section dedicated to the systemic transformations induced by artificial intelligence.
